Miles Irving Fidler passed away peacefully at 96, surrounded by family, in Tulsa on April 25,
2023.
Miles is survived by his beloved wife of 72 years Joana Fidler, son Alan and wife Dianne, son
Phillip and wife Laura, son Jerry and wife Kelly, 12 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
Beyond this, he says goodbye, for now, to 96 years' worth of sweet friendships. He was
predeceased by his father Howard "Pappy" Fidler, mother Miriam Fox, and sister Marietta
Booth.
Born in Hastings, Nebraska, on March 8, 1927, Miles went on to serve in the Navy in WWII and
was incredibly proud to have served the country he loved so much. He later received a degree
in Industrial Psychology at the University of Tulsa, where he also met the love of his life, Joana.
They were married at First Presbyterian Church in downtown Tulsa on December 23, 1950.
Miles was a successful insurance salesman with Equitable Insurance for decades until his
retirement in the mid-1980s. His services were so highly requested it's hard to pin down the
exact date that he stopped taking business calls for good. But Miles was also hard-working as a
volunteer, coaching Little League baseball, serving as an elder at Kirk of the Hills, and caring for
his neighbors through Meals on Wheels for many years.
Throughout his life, Miles loved dancing, big band and jazz, growing prize roses, playing racket
ball, cheering on the OU Sooners football team, and telling masterfully constructed jokes. He
also enjoyed years of traveling the world with Joana, including trips to his favorite place, Poipu
Beach in Koloa, Hawaii. But Miles' most treasured pastime was playing cards with his family and
friends. He was an avid bridge, hearts, and poker player and was hard to beat even in his last
days.
Miles always went the extra mile to spend time with his grandkids whether they lived near or far.
They have a lifetime of precious memories with him making "Granddaddy" rolls, playing
marbles, going to Braum's for peppermint ice cream, losing to him at hearts, and learning how to be gracious and strong through anything.
Miles, or "Teddy Bear" as he was known to his friends, had a magnetic personality and never
met a stranger. He overcame many odds throughout his life, making him a champion of the
underdog and a friend to anyone lucky to cross his path. He will be greatly missed but never
forgotten.
A memorial service will be held at 2 pm on Friday, May 5, 2023, at Kirk of the Hills, 4102 E 61st St, Tulsa, OK.
