Mima Leota Lunette Horton was a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother during her incredible 95 years of life. She transitioned peacefully into Heaven on Monday, August 5, 2024, surrounded by family in Owasso, Oklahoma. She was born to Thuel and Ethel Hagood on December 28, 1928, in Hannibal, Missouri. She was a loving sister to six brothers and one sister. After graduating from Montgomery City, Missouri High School in 1947, Mima went on to study education at Kirksville Missouri Teacher's College.
She married the love of her life, Carl Glenn Horton, on February 13, 1948, and two children were born to their union, Larry Dean and Shirley Jean.
Mima pursued a career in education and taught school in a one-room schoolhouse for 2 years. She moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1954.
Mima was one of the founding members of Eastland Assembly of God in Tulsa and faithfully served there for 25 years as the church secretary and bookkeeper.
Mima loved spending time with her family and friends. She could often be found cooking delicious meals, playing card games with friends, and she always had a drawer fully stocked with sweet treats for her grandkids.
She was preceded in death by her son, Larry Horton as well as her six brothers, Verl, Uel T, Dunbar, Virgil, Carson, and Jim Hagood.
She is survived by her husband, Glenn Horton; daughter, Shirley Roberson and her husband Michael; a sister, Doris Shipman; two grandchildren, Sara Campbell and her husband Chris, Mary Nelson and her husband Nathan; seven great-grandchildren, Constance Campbell, Myka Nelson, Kate Campbell, Khloe Nelson, Kipton Nelson, Carley Campbell, and Nora Nelson; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Viewing will be on Wednesday, August 7th, from 12 - 8 PM with family receiving friends from 6 - 8 PM at Moore Southlawn Chapel, 9350 E. 51st St., Tulsa. Funeral services will be held at 12:30 PM Thursday, August 8, 2024, at Eastland Assembly, 12310 E. 21st St., Tulsa, OK with burial at Floral Haven Cemetery.
