Mona Rae Wood, 82, passed away on November 5, 2021, in Tulsa after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was born in Corning, Arkansas and was preceded in death by her parents, Maynard and Lorine Hawkins.
Survivors include her husband Stephen Wood; her three children, Kari Callaghan, Kevin Wood and Suzanne Wood; 7 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; her brother, Harvey Hawkins; and her sister, Beverly Osborn.
Mona grew up in Wayne, Michigan and joined the Ford Motor Company after high school. Before accepting early retirement she made company history as the first female to manage the inventory and schedule cars for 40 dealers assigned to Ford's Washington, D.C. district sales office. She married Steve, then a U.S. Marine Corps officer, in Quantico, Virginia in 1966 and devoted the next 55 years to supporting him in his business career. Her servant's heart, deep faith in God and boundless energy were evident to all who knew her. She will be greatly missed by her loved ones.
Mona was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church and a committed follower of Jesus. Over the years she spent countless hours volunteering for charitable organizations. She also enjoyed cooking, entertaining, decorating, traveling, and spending time with her family.
The family would like to thank the caregivers at Heritage Point of Tulsa, Montereau Skilled Nursing and Ascension St. John Hospital for the outstanding care they provided in her final year of life.
Mona will be laid to rest at a private interment ceremony November 12th at Memorial Park Cemetery followed by a private celebration of life at Asbury United Methodist Church. You may share a memory or condolences online at
