Obituary
Monica Anne Barksdale, was born the eldest daughter of Betty and Frank Smentowski in Ames, Iowa on January 11, 1964. The third of six children, she grew up with a deep and abiding love for her family. After residing a short time in College Station, Texas, Monica's family eventually settled in Bixby, Oklahoma. Monica graduated from Bixby High School in 1982 and then went on to earn a B.S. in Marketing from Oral Roberts University. She married Jeff Barksdale on January 21, 1989 and her family was completed by the birth of her son Matt on September 23, 1995.
A loving wife, mother, sister and daughter, Monica was a champion for Christ. She spent much of her life living out her faith through serving others. Displaying Christ-like love, she volunteered in several community programs, as well as for her church. She adored people and made friends everywhere she went, from doctors' offices as a pharmaceutical sales rep, to people in the line at the amusement park. Monica radiated the love of Christ to everyone she met.
Monica loved to have fun! She had a zest for life and relished traveling and exploring. She was a voracious reader, and loved learning about the Bible and health. Monica enjoyed watching Matt compete at sports, and was a huge fan of the OSU Cowboys and the Oklahoma City Thunder. She also enjoyed the outdoors and gardening, and loved adventure and traveling to new cities, especially trips to Hawaii with her beloved family beside her.
Monica leaves behind a legacy of love, for both her family and her Savior. She is survived by her husband Jeff, son Matthew, siblings (spouses), Frank Smentowski (Theresa), Larry Smentowski (Rose), Mary Hatch (Dean), Liz Smentowski, Marc Smentowski (Wendy) and Christine Smentowski, nephew Thomas Hatch, and nieces, Joy Smentowski, Wallis Hatch, Leah and Olivia Smentowski. Monica was preceded in death by her parents Betty Lohmeyer and Frank Smentowski III.
Services will be held Saturday, December 2, 2017 at 11:00 am at Bethany Baptist Church in Broken Arrow. Moore's Southlawn 918-663-2233
