Obituary

Nancy Adams peacefully departed this life on July 10th, 2020 at the age of 89 in the company of her loving children. Nancy Jean Ryon was born on March 19th, 1931 in Bristow, Oklahoma to Ruth and (Lester) Eugene Ryon. She was the youngest of two daughters, following her older sister Mildred.

She grew up in Northeast Oklahoma and graduated from Okmulgee High School in 1949. Nancy went on to have two children, Bruce in 1955 and Cheryl in 1958, who were the most important part of her life. She worked hard, often keeping multiple jobs, to support her children. While out with friends she met late (Eugene) Gene Adams and they had an instant connection. They were married in July of 1977 and their adventurous life together began.

Nancy and Gene loved to explore together. They spent many days camping and fishing at Marval Resort Park in Gore, Oklahoma. They also deeply cherished their four granddaughters who kept them quite busy. Nancy loved to travel. She visited Ireland, Japan, Italy, France, Hawaii, and beyond; developing an appreciation for the beauty and culture every place she went.

Nancy had a servant heart. She spent countless hours volunteering to causes close to her heart. Over the years, she served at Hillcrest Medical Center in the gift shop, flower shop, and fitness center, all while holding positions in volunteer leadership. She also fell in love with a Tulsa organization called Street Cats, where she spent time volunteering, serving on the board, and raising money to help with the adoption of rescue cats. Nancy was a true "cat lady", adopting two cats of her own from Street Cats, Millie and Tiny. Nancy used her love for quilting to bless others. In addition to gifting many quilts to family and friends, she was a member of Hearts & Hands who make quilts to donate to children in crisis. She also served on the board for Retired Employees of Tulsa where she had many friends. When she was not volunteering, Nancy could likely be found hunting for cat pins at the flea market, meeting with one of her multiple quilt guilds, spending quality time with her family, or with her nose in a novel.

Nancy is preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Adams. She is survived by two children and four grandchildren: son Bruce and wife Annette, granddaughters Jennie and Alicia; daughter Cheryl and partner Kevin, granddaughters Amy and husband Bryce and Michelle. Nancy was a devoted and loving woman, holding her family and friends close to her heart. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Street Cats at streetcatstulsa.org or by mail to 6520 E 60th Street Tulsa, Oklahoma 74145.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 A.M., Monday, July 20, 2020 at Moore's Southlawn Chapel, 9350 E. 51st, Tulsa, OK. Moore's Southlawn 918-663-2233
