Obituary

Nancy Helene Gray, 81, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, passed away on Saturday, November 13, 2021, at St Francis Hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Nancy was born on December 20, 1939, in Keokuk, Iowa, the daughter of Herbert F. and Mary E. (Carlile) Ruhs. She graduated from Hamilton High School in 1957 and went on to attend Gem City Business College. In 1961, she was united in marriage to Philip E. Gray in Hamilton, Il and celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary on September 23, 2021.

Nancy was a member of the Rainbow Girls in Hamilton, served as Mother Advisor to the Rainbow Girls in Murphysboro, Il and maintained her membership in the Order of the Eastern Star, Grace Chapter # 67 in Carthage, Il. After graduation from Gem City Business College in Quincy IL she was employed at Dryden Rubber in Keokuk as a Stenographer for the Purchasing Agent until marring Philip, who was serving in the U.S. Army at Ft. Devens, Massachusetts. They enjoyed a 2-year honeymoon in New England. Returning to the Midwest, Nancy & Philip lived in Fenton, MO, Murphysboro, IL, Tulsa, OK, Omaha, Nebraska and finally back to Tulsa. Nancy was employed as a secretary at ERA Charles Welch Realtors, and The Jameson Companies, Insurance agent prior to Nancy and Philip's retirement in 2004. Nancy was active at Bethany Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) as a member of the choir and Disciples Women's. With Philip she was a member of the Sooner State Chapter of the American Theater Society, Chronologically Gifted Club, Tulsa, and The Tulsa Historical Society & Museum, and volunteered with Southside Meals on Wheels. Nancy enjoyed music of all types, played the piano and flute, attended musical concerts, Broadway plays, bus trips, dining out, educational presentations, visiting with friends and meeting new people. She will be missed by all who knew her.

Nancy is survived by her husband Philip; her Son Paul (Lisa) Gray of Tulsa; her aunt Rachel Carlile of Glenwood, Iowa; sister-in-law Sylvia J. Sauer of Carrollton, Ohio; cousins Denise (Merle), Abbey, Chad, and Kory Bloyd, all of Menden, Illinois; and numerous other cousins, nieces and nephew.

Nancy is preceded in death by her parents, her sister Linda Rose, and Nephew Tim Peters.

Nancy's life will be celebrated with a Memorial Service at a time to be determined.
