Nancy Mae (Conley) Swindler was born December 26th, 1929 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Nellie Maude (Phillips) Conley and Carl Allen Conley. Nancy was the youngest of 7 children and is survived by her husband, James Swindler; three daughters, Dorothy Swindler, Vickie Swindler Sanborn, and Shirley Bennett; her sister, Shirley Godwin; four grandchildren, Marsha Spencer, Allen Sanborn, Sara Bennett, and Robbie Bennett; and two great-grandchildren, Miriam and Samantha Spencer.
Nancy met Jimmie Swindler at West Junior High School in Muskogee, Oklahoma. They were married July 15th, 1948 in Muskogee and were married for 65 years. Nancy was generous and loving, and will be remembered for her ready smile and her creative sense of humor and her beautiful paintings.
Nancy?s remarkable artistic talent was a defining feature of her life. She was the driving force behind the creation of Oklahoma Art Workshops, with the goal of bringing world-renowned teachers to Tulsa. Nancy was passionate about encouraging others to paint and grow as artists. She was an honorary member of Alpha Rho Tau, Tulsa Artists Guild, a Signature Member of the Southwestern Watercolor Society, Western Federation of Watercolor Societies, and Kansas Watercolor Society; and an Associate Member of the American Watercolor Society and the National Watercolor Society. Nancy?s paintings have won awards in many prestigious regional, national, and international competitions. Her paintings have also been featured in The Best of Flower Painting (1996) and The Best of Watercolor Composition (1997).
Nancy and Jimmie were tireless supporters of Habitat for Humanity and she supported future artists through Alpha Rho Tau scholarships.
Nancy was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church where she enjoyed worshipping surrounded by family and beautiful music. After a long struggle with pulmonary fibrosis, she left this world on November 21st, 2013. She will be sorely missed. Rest assured that she has gone on to glory and found peace in the presence of God. To honor her memory, in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to: Habitat for Humanity ?
