Obituary

Dr. Nelda Laverne Bloom was born in Springfield, Arkansas on January 25, 1933, to Ray and Juanita Clark, both now deceased.

She attended High School in Conway, Arkansas. Nelda earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Missouri, and continued her education earning a Master's Degree and Doctorate of Education Degree from Oklahoma State University. Nelda would put her education to good use helping mold the minds of future generations while working as the Curriculum and Media Director for the Tulsa Technology Center until her retirement there in 1997.

In 1990, she became involved with the Tulsa County Sheriff's Office by writing a script for a crime prevention movie and assisting in its production. From that time forward, she was entwined with the sheriff's office providing her expertise in training and education support when asked. She would become so involved with the Tulsa County Sheriff's Office, that in 2001,she became the Chairwoman of its Chaplain corps and went on to receive her necessary training as a minister, becoming a volunteer Chaplain in 2002. In March of 2004, Nelda was hired full-time as a sheriff's office Chaplain.

She devoted her time and energy to the employees and deputies of the Tulsa County Sheriff's Office until her retirement in September of 2013.Nelda won numerous awards and accolades in her life, some of those include; the American Vocational Association Outstanding Educator of the Year in 1992, the Tulsa County Sheriff's Office Citizen of the Year in 1993, and the Tulsa Women's Foundation and Mayors Commission Pinnacle Award in 1997.

Her strength and determination were demonstrated when she survived breast cancer in 1995, and then became involved in helping other breast cancer patients as a member of the Cancer Society's Reach to Recovery Group. She was also a member of various other Tulsa area organizations including the Blue Starr Mothers, the Tulsa Republican Women's Group and Leadership of Sand Springs.

Nelda Bloom was a loving, caring, and compassionate woman who went out of her way to help and counsel the people who needed her. Not only was she like a mother to many individuals oft he Tulsa County Sheriff's Office, she was also the mother of two sons, Eric Cyle Bloom, and Gary Don Bloom. Other than her two sons, Nelda's immediate family includes, brothers Doyle Clark, (deceased,) and Don Clark, daughter-in-law Lisa K. Bloom, grandsons, Kevin Bloom, (deceased,) and Troy Bloom, granddaughter Erica Bloom, great granddaughter Makayla Bloom, and grandsons Daniel Bloom, and Kris Bloom Nelda passed away, Sunday, April 6, 2025, she was 92.

Memorial Service will be held 11AM, Saturday, April 26, 2025 at Moore's Southlawn Chapel, 9350 East 51st Street, Tulsa, Oklahoma.
