Obituary

Nelle Jeanne Bean was born October 23, 1926 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to R. Vester and Hazel Lowe. Nelle went to be with her Lord on January 25, 2021 while residing in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Charlene Marie Bean of Tulsa and her brother Norman Lowe of Grapevine, Texas. She is survived by her son, Charles Bean and his wife Janice of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, her granddaughter, Jana Bean of Roanoke, Virginia, and nephew, David Lowe of Waynesville, Missouri.

Nelle graduated from Tulsa Central High School in 1944 and was a member of the orchestra. She attended Phillips University in Enid, Oklahoma for one year before leaving to join the war effort, along with her mother, building bomber airplanes at Spartan Aircraft in Tulsa.

Nelle worked as a keypunch operator at Skelly Oil Company in Tulsa for several years before leaving to raise her family. Later, she worked as a payroll bookkeeper for Whataburger Corporation in Tulsa. Nelle enjoyed working with her flowers, reading books, and crocheting. She and her daughter often sold their handmade goods at area craft fairs.

Raised in a Christian home, Nelle had a heart for giving. When she no longer played her cello, she gave it to a young cello student who could not afford an instrument of her own. Nelle crocheted dozens of baby booties, hats, and blankets which she often donated to local charity organizations. While raising her son and daughter, Nelle took in foster children for several years. She was a longtime member of the Christian Church. While making many personal sacrifices, she always saw to it that her children were raised in the Christian church. She drove across town on Sundays to take her children to church and to evening church youth activities.

Nelle enjoyed traveling. In 1996, she and three of her friends traveled to several Western states and visited Yellowstone National Park and Mount Rushmore, among other attractions. In 2000, she and her daughter traveled to New Mexico, the Pueblo Ruins in Colorado, and the Grand Canyon in Arizona.

It is comforting to know that she has now passed on to the greatest paradise of all, Heaven. She will be greatly missed by her friends and family who know they will see her again one day.
