Obituary

Nhan Do was born on January 1, 1935, in the province of Nam Dinh, Vietnam to Quan Do and Kinh Tran. As a child, her family evacuated to the village of Bui Chu due to the French Indo-China War, which ravaged North Vietnam. At Bui Chu, her future husband, Thai Vuong, fell in love with her and for many years admired her from afar. When she was of legal age to marry, Thai's parents asked for Nhan's hand for marriage at the tender age of 17. As the Indo-China War continued and it became more apparent that the French would have difficulty holding off the North Vietnamese Army, Nhan and Thai moved their young family to Saigon, Vietnam in 1954. With a sharp mind for business and numbers, Nhan ran several successful businesses in Saigon with her husband. They started off raising pigs and selling pork before venturing into the construction materials business. In 1975, with the Vietnam War coming to an end, they emigrated from Vietnam to the United States to seek a new life for them and their children. In between business deals and several wars, she somehow managed to give birth to 13 children, 12 of whom survived, and adopted her nephew Dr. Hugh Do, whom she loved dearly. Nhan was a strong-willed individual who had the tenacity and resilience to overcome what challenges came her way. She was preceded in death by her husband, her infant daughter, Thanh Vuong, and her parents. She was a deeply devoted mother and wife and will be missed greatly by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survived by 5 sons -- Chung Nguyen (La), Chinh Vuong (Cynthia), Thanh Vuong (Mai), Dr. Hugh Do (Eileen) and Jimmy Vuong (Maria), 8 daughters -- Nhung Ledford (David), Thuy Tran (Vinh), Erica Pham (Sy), Lan Vuong, Huong Iselin (Louis), Elizabeth Jin (Edwin), Hang Rodgers (Darren), and Anhna Vuong (Darrell), and a host of grandchildren and greatchildren.
