Obituary

Nilene Dees Messick was born in 1929 in Hollis, Oklahoma and moved to Texas in 1939. She later returned to Oklahoma in 1965, where she resided until her death on March 11, 2022. She was the daughter of Nily and Zem Dees.

Nilene was the first born of two children. She graduated as Salutatorian from Dalhart High School in 1947, having participated in band, choir, drama club, and chorus club. She met Herbert, the love of her life on a blind date and they married eight months later. Herbert was a veteran of World War II who would be called to serve in the Korean War shortly after their marriage. Throughout her life raising four children, she was very active at Memorial Baptist Church, teaching Sunday School, singing in the choir, and participating in the quilting club. She also worked at Monte Casino School and Oral Roberts University.

Nilene had a strong belief in God, was an avid reader, and loved her family and the church. She was symbolic of a bygone era, the matriarch of a strong family, who led by faith. She loved to travel and, among other trips, went to Germany, France, Switzerland, Austria, and England. She loved her dogs, Mandy and Joey. She was a great cook and was famous for her cinnamon rolls. She was loving, patient and will be missed very much.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Nily and Zem Dees, husband, Herbert Messick, son Steven Messick, and grandson Dayton Rodrigues. She is survived by her sister, Madge Hardin (Darrell), sons Alan Messick (Karen) and Bill Messick, daughter Nancy Rodrigues (Ron), daughter-in-law Tina Messick, grandchildren Brian, Andrew, Lindsay, Diane, Sharon, Michelle, Rachael, Tiffany, Nicole, Madison, eleven great grandchildren, and one great grandchild.

The funeral service is scheduled at 1:00pm on Friday, March 18, 2022, at Memorial Baptist Church, Tulsa, Oklahoma. The burial service is scheduled at 1:00pm on Monday, March 21, 2022, at Laurel Land Memorial Park, Ft. Worth, Texas.
