Norma Ball passed away January 9, 2021, two weeks shy of her 90th birthday. She was born Norma Sue Darnell on January 26, 1931, in the village of Pleasant Hill, near Vinita, Oklahoma. Norma was an Oklahoma girl through and through. She grew up on a beautiful farm, graduating Valedictorian from Bluejacket High School in 1948. She attended Northeastern Oklahoma A & M in Miami, Oklahoma, where she met Jack Ball. Norma and Jack married and graduated together from Oklahoma A & M, now Oklahoma State University. Norma taught home economics at College High School in Bartlesville, Oklahoma and her students won many awards in regional cooking contests. She resumed teaching in Tulsa Public Schools after staying home several years to raise her family, until her retirement in 1994. During that time, Norma earned her Masters of Science in Education from Oklahoma State University in 1982. She remained an active member in the Green Country Home Economics Club even after retirement.
Norma passed on her love of learning and love of travel to her five grandchildren. She was an attentive and loving grandmother, wife of 50 years, mother of two and proud member of First Baptist Church, Tulsa for over 55 years. She is preceded in death by her parents Jesse and Effie Darnell, both of Vinita; her husband Jack; as well as her brother Carl Darnell and sister Maureen Lightfoot. She is survived by her daughters: Cindy Jones, married to Michael Jones of Tulsa, and Carolyn Reuss, married to Ronald Reuss of Boulder, Colorado; grandchildren Ian Jones, Morgan Jones, Aubree Jones, Rosalie Reuss and Walter Reuss; and her brothers Joe Darnell of Owasso and Ernest Darnell of Tulsa. Her family wishes to thank Zarrow Pointe Healthcare for providing a loving environment over the last five years.
A Memorial Service will be held 2 PM, Wednesday, September 1, 2021 at Moore's Southlawn Chapel.
