Norma Jean Hatfield, formerly of Canon City, CO, passed away in Tulsa, OK with family by her side after a long, courageous battle with Alzheimer's and Congestive Heart failure. Norma was the middle child of three, born on March 12, 1927 to Allen Nutt and Mary (Sikes) Nutt of Marshall, Texas. She graduated from Marshall High School in 1944. After high school she attended telegraph school in Springfield, MO where she met her husband Kenneth A. Hatfield who was stationed at FT. Leonard, MO. They married August 19, 1946, and in December of 1946 her husband was sent to fight in WWII. Norma lived with her husband's family in Savanna, Illinois until after the war, and then later overseas by her husband's side.
Norma spent a great part of her life as a non-commissioned officer's wife in the U.S. Army; living in Germany and Italy. Norma had a passion for travel and continued traveling even after her husband retired from the Army, and then after she was widowed in 1991. Norma traveled with the Sister City to Valdai, Russia along with numerous trips with friends and family to China, Africa, Hungary, Czechoslovakia, and a great majority of northern and western Europe.
Norma was known by many citizens of Canon City as Fremont County's "First Lady." Norma served as the County Clerk and Recorder from 1972-2011; serving for 38 years. She had many accomplishments most notable being a devoted member of First Baptist Church of Canon City since 1966, the first female president of Canon City Rotary, and holding the longest position as County Clerk in Colorado.
Norma is survived by her daughter Jodie J. Hatfield of Pryor, OK, her granddaughter, Maggie (Danny) Packebush of Lake Hudson, OK, grandson Austin Warman (Luis ReyesLuna) of Colorado Springs, CO, great grandchildren Madison Packebush and Kenneth C. Packebush. Special family members Patricia Mullin of Pueblo, CO, Levi and Amber Warman of Canon City, CO, Joan (late Burl) Doss of Pittsburg, TX, Brenda (late Dudley) Thomas, and Robbie and Santina Hines of Maryland. She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, and brothers.
By her request, Norma will be cremated and there will not be a viewing. A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church in Canon City, CO. on March 12th at 11am. Interment will follow at Ft.
