Norma Kraft (nee Rasmussen) was born February 9, 1930 in Progress, Oklahoma, the second of five children to Louis and Addie Rasmussen. She died peacefully in her sleep Sunday, June 26, 2016. She is survived by her three children: Kathy West of Tulsa, OK and her husband Bob West; Susan Yandell of Ukiah, CA. and her husband Scott Yandell; and her son Jamie Kraft of Manchester, England; and her two grandchildren: Libby Yandell of San Francisco, CA. and Jack Yandell of San Francisco, CA.
She is also survived by her sister JoAnne Holsinger and three brothers David Rasmussen, Mickey Rasmussen and Norval Rasmussen and their children Alex Holsinger, Peggy Davis, Jack Rasmussen, Eric Rasmussen, Jamie Bruce and Kiersten Rasmussen. She is predeceased by her parents and by her nephew Steven Holsinger.
Norma attended Coyle High School and excelled scholastically and in basketball. In May of 1946 at the age of 16, she was the valedictorian of her graduating class.
Norma attended and graduated from Oklahoma A&M in 1950 with a journalism degree. She was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority and stayed in touch with her friends from those years for the rest of her life. She achieved a perfect 4.0 GPA, was an A&M beauty queen and played basketball.
She started her journalism career in Vinita writing for the Vinita Daily Journal, and continued to write for newspapers and as needed for the many volunteer organizations she supported throughout her life. Her love of words and writing stayed with her.
While living in Vinita, Norma was introduced to Dr. James Kraft. On December 17, 1950, they were married at St. Luke's church in Tulsa, Oklahoma where Dr. Kraft started his medical practice.
Norma was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She spent many hours volunteering and fundraising for the Philbrook Art Museum, the Tulsa Opera, the Tulsa Philharmonic, the Tulsa Ballet and the Tulsa Symphony. She loved sports, especially baseball, tennis and golf and was an avid bridge player. Occasionally she wrote pieces for the Tulsa World or Tulsa Tribune papers.
She attended St. John's Episcopal Church with her family
Services are Friday, July 1 at 10 AM, Asbury United Methodist Church, 66th and Mingo in Tulsa.
