Obituary

Norman E. Duckworth, born April 2, 1934, in Enid, Oklahoma, passed away on November 14, 2025, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was the beloved son of Eugene and Verna Duckworth. Norman was preceded in death by his brother, Burford Duckworth of Corpus Christi. He is survived by his sister, Marlene Shiplett of Tulsa, Oklahoma.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Sue Ann Duckworth, his childhood sweetheart from Enid, Oklahoma. Norman and Sue Ann were married for 69 wonderful years, having wed on June 2, 1956, in Enid, Oklahoma.
Norman is also survived by his children:
Alex Duckworth of Lee's Summit, Missouri.
Jason and Kim Duckworth of Belton, Texas
Nathan and Dianne (Duckworth) Baxter of Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Norman was a lifelong member of the Disciples of Christ denomination, with his home church being First Christian Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He graduated with a bachelor's degree from Phillips University in Enid and earned an MBA from the University of Tulsa.
Norman spent most of his career with Oklahoma Natural Gas, which later became ONEOK. He began as a meter reader during college, and after a brief time in the military, worked his way through the company. He served as District Manager in Clinton, Oklahoma, later returning to Tulsa as Vice President of the newly formed drilling and exploration company. He completed his distinguished career as Corporate Secretary for ONEOK Gas.
Norman also had a notable military career. After graduating college, he was drafted to the U.S. Army and was stationed at Fort Sam, Texas, and Fort Sill, Oklahoma, where he completed Officer Candidate School and received his federal commission. Following his commissioning, Norman and Sue Ann moved to Baumholder, Germany, where they lived for three years before returning to Tulsa.
Norman served in the Oklahoma Army National Guard from 1961 to 1988. Rising through the ranks in the 45th Field Artillery Brigade, he commanded the 1st Battalion, 158th Field Artillery, Lawton, Oklahoman and later the 1st Battalion, 171st Field Artillery in Altus, Oklahoma. He served as the 45th Field Artillery Brigade in Enid, Oklahoma for six years. He was selected for promotion to Brigadier General and served as the Assistant Adjutant General for the Oklahoma National Guard. He was a graduate of the Army War College in Carlisle Barracks, Pennsylvania, and he was awarded the Legion of Merit for his service.
Norman will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and leader who dedicated his life to his family, faith, and country.
