Norman "David" Van Dalsem passed from this life peacefully on September 18, 2022, after developing complications from a sudden illness during the summer. David was born on August 9, 1938, to Nathaniel Dow and Molly Gertrude Van Dalsem in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. His father worked as a hydroelectric plant operator, and the family moved to Hot Springs, Arkansas, Langley, Oklahoma, and Kingman, Arizona. As a child, David enjoyed spending time outdoors hunting and fishing with his father and friends.
When David was 16, his father died suddenly. David and his mother moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma to be near relatives. David graduated from Tulsa Central High School, and he lived the remainder of his life in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
After high school, David married Barbara Parks, and they had two sons, David Allen and Steven Mark. After divorcing from Barbara, David married Mary Anne Pitts, and they had a son, Neil.
David worked for 35 years as an electrical lineman and crew foreman, braving all sorts of conditions to provide and restore electrical service to many areas in Oklahoma. After retiring, David and Mary Anne enjoyed traveling around the American West. David loved outdoor activities, including gardening, hunting, and fishing, which he often shared with his sons. He enjoyed being around people, and he loved everyone. He had a great sense of humor and was the life of every gathering he attended.
David is preceded in death by his parents; his son Steven; his sister and brother-in-law, Theda Faye and Scotty West; and his sister and brother-in-law, Helen and Buddy Wilson. David is survived by Mary Anne, sons David Allen and Neil, grandsons Luke and Gabriel Van Dalsem, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
