Known by friends and family as Doug, a kind and caring husband and father. Doug passed away at home in Tulsa on November 6, 2022, at the age of 93.
Doug was born on September 5, 1929, in Tulsa, Oklahoma to G.N. and Ruth (Cherry) Douglass. He was an only child. He was a kind and loving husband, as well as an amazing father. He was married to his high school sweetheart Jean (Grove) Douglass, on September 22, 1950, in Tulsa and they had an incredible life together, married for 72 years.
He graduated from Central High School in Tulsa. As a young man, he participated in the Golden Gloves amateur boxing competitions. Doug was a veteran serving in the Korean War with the U.S. Army. Most of his career was spent at Chick Norton Buick as a Service Advisor. While there he played on the company fast pitch softball team for many years. He also worked at Neiman-Nassif Buick and Jim Nelson Ford for a few years.
He enjoyed time with his family and spent many weekends at their place on the Illinois River, in Tahlequah. Always working to make improvements to the property, he constructed a stone stairway down to the river and planted many trees, while Jean did the landscaping, planting the most beautiful flowers. They mostly worked while everyone else played. He did love playing horseshoes and had a yearly horseshoe tournament. Having lots of cookouts, hunting, fishing, and laughter with family and friends over the years, many fond memories were made.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Allied Home Health & Hospice for their loving, patient, and compassionate care of their father and continued care of their mother.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his wife, Jean Douglass, his children, Clayton; daughter-in-law Jeannie (Furr) Douglass, his daughter Debbie Douglass; daughter-in-law Marsha Hilton. His 2 granddaughters Erica & husband Eric Johnson; and Sara & husband Will Fowler, all of Broken Arrow. As well as his 10 great-grandchildren: Perry, Parker, and Libby Benedict; Corban, Clayt, Wyatt, Atlea, and Maverick Johnson; Josie, and Jax Fowler; and a host of other family and friends that will forever miss him.
