Obituary

Nuhad Barakat Farhood passed away on Tuesday, January 4, 2022, after complications from pneumonia.

Nuhad was born in Jdeidet, Marjeyoun, Lebanon on August 15, 1933 to Skander and Mary Barakat. After completing her education, she taught school in the local community. In the mid 1960's, she met the love of her life, Sam Farhood, who was from Tulsa, Oklahoma and visiting in Lebanon at the time. After their marriage in 1968, Nuhad came to Tulsa with her husband to begin her life in the United States.

In 1968, she and Sam opened Antone's Import Company in Tulsa - later changing the name to The Cedar's Deli. She worked tirelessly at "the store" day in and day out to prepare food, order inventory, and operate the restaurant efficiently. Her caring and compassion was evident by the lives she touched every day. Nuhad was so welcoming and genuine. She did not simply serve food, she made everyone feel like family. Her customers truly loved her and she them.

Nuhad was a member of St. Antony Orthodox Christian Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Over the years, she sang special hymns in Arabic. Parishioners specifically remember that each year on Holy Thursday evening, she would beautifully sing "Today He is Suspended on a Tree" in Arabic as the priest carried the cross of Jesus. Nuhad loved her church and the church community.

After her husband passed in 2019, Nuhad moved into a retirement community. As she met new friends and neighbors, Nuhad cooked meals for various celebrations, introducing them to Lebanese food and culture.

Nuhad was preceded in death by her husband Sam of 50 years, and is survived by her son Jason; her brothers Farhan and Zein; her grandchildren Madilyn, Breanna, and Zane; and great-grandchildren Ava, Aiden, Milani, and True. Nuhad is also survived by many nieces and nephews who she loved dearly. Two of her nephews, "Kerry" and "Micho" became like sons to her and Sam when they gave them a home for many years when they immigrated to the States.

The family wishes memorial gifts be made to St. Antony Orthodox Christian Church Memorial Fund.
