Obituary

Ona Lee David Cootes was born on September 4, 1930, in Rochester, Texas, to Marion Caldwell David and Cora Lee Bell. She entered into her heavenly home on August 15, 2024. Ona Lee and her older brother, Dewey, were raised by their mother during the Great Depression. Her modest childhood helped shape her into a woman of strength and determination. Her family moved to Arlington, Texas, where at the age of 13 she met the love of her life, Howard Cootes. They graduated from high school in 1947 and married on July 16, 1950, while Howard was in the US Navy. They were married until Howard's death in 2014. While he was stationed in Norfolk, Virginia, their first daughter, Roxanna Lynn, was born in 1952. Christy Lee followed in 1955, in Arlington. Ona Lee graduated from North Texas State University in 1951 with a degree in elementary education. She taught in Norfolk, Arlington and Tulsa, where Howard was transferred in 1959. She loved the Lord, her family and singing. She taught school for over 30 years, as well as children and adult Sunday School classes and children's church choir. She was a soloist in the adult choir at Trinity United Methodist Church in Tulsa. After her retirement, Ona Lee volunteered at St. Francis Hospital for 25 years. Howard's job with American Airlines afforded them the opportunity to take many wonderful trips all over the world. Ona Lee was preceded in death by her mother, Cora, her brother, Dewey David, her husband of 64 years, Howard Cootes, and her sons in law, Jack Stults and Ron Roselius. She is survived by her daughters, Roxanna Stults and Christy Roselius, five grandchildren, Melissa Richardson (Jeff), Lorie Holland (Brian), Ricky Roselius (Anne), Kelly Moyer (Chet) and Andy Roselius (Amanda). She is also survived by 12 great grandchildren. Her family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff of Aberdeen Heights Assisted Living and Seasons Hospice for their loving care of Ona Lee.
