Obituary

Opal Ann Hawkins was born in Muskogee, Oklahoma, on February 17, 1936, to Murray Allen and Thelma Opal (McCarter) Roberts. She was welcomed into the arms of Jesus on April 14, 2021, in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Ann is preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Mac Roberts, and infant great-grandchildren, Zander Clark, and Skylar Clark.
She is survived by her husband, Joe Hawkins of the home; two daughters, Denise and her husband, Vaughn Clark of Niangua, Missouri, Donna and her husband, Jeff Martin, of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; step-son Tim and his wife, Marci Hawkins of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, step-daughter Carla and her husband Tim Raney of Tulsa, Oklahoma; seven grandchildren, Caleb, Jordan, Micah and his wife, Raelynn Clark, Emily Hawkins, Aubry, Jessica and Sarah Raney, and one great-granddaughter, Amberlee Clark; the father of her children, James Helt, and many other relatives and friends.
Ann was a real Okie from Muskogee and graduated from Central High School in 1953. She worked for Brockway Glass for a time.
She married James Helt on June 15, 1954. They were married 16 years and to this union two daughters were born.
Ann began working for the Tulsa Public Schools in 1970 as a secretary at Cleveland Junior High. She then moved to Foster Junior High. In 1980 she moved to the Education Service Center and worked in several different capacities before her retirement in 1993.
After retirement she began working for Hawkins Tax and Accounting helping prepare taxes. She and Joe were married August 23, 1997. They enjoyed a beautiful blended family.
Ann was a vicious volleyball player in her younger years. She was a MVP of her church volleyball team. Spending time with family was her favorite past time. Especially when it involved camping, fishing and building a campfire for hot dogs and smores. She was considered the family "pyromaniac".
She accepted Christ at an early age and was faithful her entire life. She was a long-time member of Sandusky Ave. Christian Church and Cincinnati Ave. Christian Church before that. She had a heart for missions and was active on the mission committee for years. She went with a group to Austria to serve at House Edelweiss, and another trip to Mexico City area to visit Ninos de Mexico. Locally, Sunset Bible Camp was always dear to her heart.
She deeply loved her children and grandchildren and they loved her. She was happy to welcome her first great-grandchild, this side of heaven, and always enjoyed her smiles and laughter. Her faith and family were the center of her life. Ann was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She will be deeply missed by all who loved her.
