Orel D. Irby 95, passed away Sunday, July 29, 2018 at his residence at Montereau Retirement Center in Tulsa, OK. He was born in Bristow, OK on January 15, 1923 to Joe J. Irby and Leona (Hurst) Irby.
Orel graduated from Beggs, OK High School in 1940 and began college studies at Oklahoma A & M in Stillwater, where he was an active member of Lambda Chi Alpha social fraternity.
He enlisted for active duty in the US Marine Corps on December 2, 1942. He achieved the rank of 1st Lieutenant and served in the South Pacific theater. He was honorably discharged from the Marine Corp in June 1946.
He returned to Oklahoma A & M where he completed his degree in accounting. While there, he met and married his wife of 69 years, Jacquelyn A. Sandberg. They were married in Waterloo, IA September 4, 1949.
His career in public accounting spanned for 61 years in addition to being a faculty member of the University of Tulsa where he taught many classes in petroleum accounting.
He and his wife Jackie, enjoyed many years of traveling the world together. They also shared a common interest in searching for fine collectibles.
He is survived by his wife Jacquelyn, daughter Cheryl Schofield of Columbia, MO (husband Mike), son James Irby of Tulsa, OK (wife Annie) and grandsons Matthew and Sean Schofield and Jack Irby. Preceding him in death were his parents and only brother Lyle Irby.
Service at 2:00 PM, Friday, August 3rd at Memorial Park Cemetery Chapel.
