Otis Leo Osborn was born in Newalla, Oklahoma on October 30, 1925. His family moved to Shawnee, Oklahoma where his father worked as a mail carrier for many years. He graduated from Shawnee High School in 1943 and joined the U.S. Navy. During the war he was stationed in San Diego, California, serving as a Pharmacist's Mate in the U.S. Naval Hospital. After the war Otis returned home and enrolled in college at Oklahoma Baptist University. After receiving his undergraduate degree, he transferred to the University of Oklahoma where he was accepted into the O.U. Law School. He obtained his Juris Doctorate degree and maintained membership in the Oklahoma Bar Association for over 70 years and was recognized in 2020 for being one of Oklahoma's longest living active members.
When he returned home from serving in the war he met the love of his life, Ruby Nell Noland, and they were married in her parent's home on November 12th, 1949. They moved to Oklahoma City where Otis worked with Standard Oil Company, which eventually became AMOCO, and he remained with them for the rest of his career as a Transportation Supervisor. During this time Otis and his family lived in Oklahoma City, Tulsa, Chicago and again in Tulsa where he retired in 1985. Otis loved to explore and travel the country. He and Nell made many trips home from Chicago to take care of family back in Oklahoma and they toured all the states except for North Dakota, as well as traveled to Europe and the Holy Land. Otis and Nell made life-long friendships wherever they were living and lovingly helped many who crossed their path. Otis was a faithful follower of Christ and was an active member of Asbury Methodist Church, involved in bible study and accountability groups, volunteering in the church library, and serving as a friendly greeter each Sunday. He also worked in several community charities such as the Legal Aid Society and Meals on Wheels. He was an avid reader and regular at the local library. After retirement he enjoyed the game of golf for exercise, fellowship and fun and spent many hours on the course refining his game. He played on into his 90's and gave all his grandchildren helpful tips on their game over the years.
Otis is survived by: his loving and devoted wife, Ruby Nell Osborn; his daughters, Nancy McDougal and Marsha Storjohann and her husband Allan; along with grandchildren, Matthew McDougal and wife Katie, Christie Plemons and husband Neill, Nathan Storjohann and wife Tara, Rebecca Smith and husband Brodie; and nephews, Danny Dodd and Johnny Dodd. He has six great-grandchildren: Ian, Logan, Zachary, Carsten, Violet, and Amelia. He was preceded in death by: his parents, Myrl and Mary Osborn; his sister, Juanita Dodd; and son in law, Mike McDougal.
The family would like to thank those who gave him tender loving care during his last years. They are particularly grateful to Marilyn Pickens and Allied Hospice for their wonderful home care.
