Palmer McKeiver Davis, Jr., 83, of Tulsa, Oklahoma passed away in the comfort of his own home after battling Alzheimer's, surrounded by his wife and loving family on Thursday, September 5, 2019.
Palmer was born on July 12, 1936 to Palmer McKeiver Davis, Sr. and Emma Adelle Davis. He was raised in Horry County, a small farming community in Northeastern South Carolina.
Palmer graduated from Aynor High School in 1954 and attended the University of Clemson, majoring in Business Administration. In July of 1955 he married Shelby Jean Shelley, his high school sweetheart.
In 1956 he began his career in telecommunications with Horry Telephone Cooperative as Maintenance Supervisor and finally Plant Superintendent. In 1965, Palmer accepted a position with Superior Cable Corporation as Chief Carrier Engineer and moved his family to Hickory, North Carolina. During his time with Superior Continental Corporation and its subsidiaries, Palmer and his family moved to Dallas, Texas and Hollywood, Florida. Palmer acted as Carrier Coordinator with Bell Telephone Systems and the independent telephone companies throughout the United States, Canada, the Caribbean and South America. In 1974, Palmer accepted a position as Manager of Telephone Industry Sales at Seiscor Seismograph Services Corporation, a division of Raytheon, and moved his family to Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Palmer rapidly advanced his career over the next 25 years and became Vice President of Sales at Seiscor and later President of Vericom Systems before he retired.
Palmer was a wonderful brother, husband, father, grandfather and friend. He loved his family, flying and playing golf. Palmer obtained his private pilot's license in the late 1960's. He bought a Cessna 182 in the early 70's and flew on company trips to South and Central America for business. He also enjoyed flying his family on vacation to the east coast.
Left to honor Palmer are his wife of 64 years, Shelby Jean (Shelley) Davis; his three sons Palmer Davis (granddaughter: Holly Davis), Stephen Davis and Christopher Davis (wife: Dawn and six grandchildren); his three daughters, Elizabeth Strickler (husband: Eric; grandchildren: Stephanie Strickler, Karen Curole and Allen Strickler, and twin great-granddaughters: Ellie and Josie Strickler), Melissa Whitenack (husband: Bill; grandchildren: Kadi, Keith and Kylar), Donna Davis Walden (grandchildren: David Walden, Theresa Walden; great-granddaughter: Danika Muse). Palmer is also survived by his siblings: Charles Davis, Donald Davis (wife: Pat), Johnson Davis (wife: Lynn), Pam (Davis) Smith (husband: Wendell), Richard Davis (wife: Fran), and many other family members not forgotten.
Palmer was preceded in death by his parents and his grandson, Brooks.
