Brown
January 28, 1929 – May 7, 2026
Patricia "Pat" Idalea Bell Brown, 97, of Tulsa, OK, entered eternal rest on May 7, 2026. She was born January 28, 1929, in New Braunfels, Texas to Tracie Richard and Lola Eva (Briner) Bell. She spent her elementary school years (1st - 5th) in New Braunfels and Alice, Texas. She was promoted past 6th grade and went on to attend 7th grade in Austin, TX (playing soprano saxophone in the high school band), 8th grade in Omaha, NE, 9th-11th grade in Minneapolis, MN and 12th grade in Chelsea, OK where she graduated from Chelsea High School.
She met C. Arnold Brown on the first day of her first class at the University of Tulsa in 1946 and they were married on August 1, 1948. She attended the University from 1946 to 1950, working as a secretary at the First Presbyterian Church of Tulsa and later in the Development of Religion office at TU. She graduated with a major in religion and education and a minor in music. After graduation, she worked at the Community Chest and the Child Guidance Center before leaving Tulsa with her husband for the "oil patch," returning to Tulsa just before their youngest was born.
When her four children were young, Pat taught private piano lessons in her home, was active in PTA's, participated in Cub, Boy, and Girl Scouts. She directed the Magic Empire Council Girl Scout Choir for many years, was a volunteer delivering Meals on Wheels, and a volunteer screening children's vision in elementary schools for the City County Health Department. She was an aerobics instructor, therapeutic exercise specialist, and a tutor through the literacy department of the Tulsa Central Library, teaching adults to read. She served as elder, lay worker, music director, and organist at Yale Avenue Presbyterian Church. She was also a member of American Guild of Organists, Golden Hurricane Club, TU Alumni Association, Women of the Hurricane Club, and the Juliette Low Leadership Society.
In 1963, she helped form and continued to work in KWB Oil Property Management, Inc. with her husband, Arnold. Together they served in the Presbyterian Church with Youth Fellowships, Sunday Schools, Women Associations, Children and Youth Choirs. She and her husband were active members of Asbury Church-Tulsa. Pat enjoyed being a regular spectator at so many of her kids, grandkids, and great grandkids games, recitals, concerts, and assemblies over the years. She particularly enjoyed the family trips to St. Louis to attend the St. Louis Cardinals baseball games, visiting Busch Stadium for the last time in 2019.
Pat is survived by her son, Mickey Brown of Tulsa OK, daughters; Julie Koupe (Terry) of Nowata OK and Laurie Brown Purser (Darrell) of Bixby OK. Daughter-in-law, Lina Brown Holmes (Richard Holmes), five grandchildren: Erinn Lynam (Kevin), Patrick Brown (Jennifer), Richard Brown, Jordan Anderson, and Carter Bledsoe, eight great grandchildren: Addy, Tanner, Tye, Jameson, Brax, Raegan, Kaylen, and Kendall, and four great-great grandchildren. Pat also leaves behind her brother's family, whom she loved dearly: Tracie (Becky), Peggy (Fritz) and David (Becky) and their children Laura, Rachel, Emily, Justin, Daniel & Scott and other nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold, of 77 years (5/7/25), her son Arnold (Arney) Richard Brown (1997), her father when she was 6 years old, her mother, whom she took care of for many years, her brother, Tracie and his wife Margaret.
Family was especially important to Pat. She stated, "I have been so fortunate to have so much love FOR and FROM my family." That, of course, included a wide group of friends as well, since she treated everyone she met as family.
