Obituary

Pat Potter, born in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, joined the family as the first son of Bobbye and Dewitt L. Potter. He is survived by his sisters, Dee Anne (Don), Melissa (Michael) and brother Michael as well as nieces Sarah and Kellen and nephew Travis and 2 grand nephews. The family moved to Oklahoma in 1961, first to Bartlesville and then to Tulsa, where he attended Paul Revere Elementary and Edison Jr. and Sr. High Schools. He attended Westminster College and North Eastern State College before returning to become a lifelong Tulsan.
An unusually curious boy with wide ranging interests who loved tinkering, he eventually made jewelry, invented and patented labor saving devices, and curated an arcane collection of "curiosities" that never failed to grab the attention of visitors to his home. Early on he began to build another collection: that of good and loyal friends, with whom he maintained connections lasting the rest of his life. His unique sense of humor and unstoppable proclivity to make puns kept conversations a mix of laughter and groans.
He worked many different jobs, allowing him to be close to things that he loved including pyrotechnician, roadie for Tulsa Sound musicians, stagehand at the PAC, co-owner and cook at Middle Eastern Deli and cook at The Grey Snail; extra in a Weird Al Yankovich movie, doorman at various Tulsa nightspots, dental lab technician and finally meat counter salesman at Reasors. He was the go-to meat guy for many loyal customers because he really loved good food- preparing it, learning about it, talking about it and eating it. He was such a barbeque fan that when he adopted a little black dog, he named her Hasty. She was his best friend for 17 years.
Pat loved travel, especially to Canada in the summer and places with beaches where he could Scuba dive anytime. But the highlight was his trip to Kenya. In his 50's he developed a deep passion for golf. He played every chance he had, even getting in nine holes in the early morning before work. His love of the game never diminished, even when a disability meant all he could do was watch the pros, in person at tournaments or on TV.
Pat loved a party, especially if costumes were involved; an adult beverage or two; motorcycle riding and Jeopardy.
He will be remembered as a man generous with friendship, who would help you if he could, and who never took himself too seriously.
