Obituary

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Pearl Mae (Wachs) Green, of Alton, IL on Saturday, June 22, 2024 just short of her 95th birthday.

She will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Gloria Wiedlocher of Alton, IL and Connie (Roy) Creager of Katy, TX; daughter-in-law, Nancy Aker Green of Port Charlotte, FL; 7 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; as well as numerous nephews, nieces and friends.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 76 years, Jack C. Green; son, Gerald Allen Green; parents, Hilary Wachs and Goldie (Kramer) Wachs; and siblings, Donald Wachs, Ned Wachs, Lavera Murphy, Bonnie Fuchs, Elsie Ranson, Gene Wachs and Evelyn Walker.

Pearl was the 7th of 8 children born to Hilary and Goldie Wachs on a small farm in Browns, IL on June 24, 1929. She graduated from Eph Hall School (8th grade) in 1942, then from Browns High School in 1946 when she was 16 years old. She took a job as a waitress at Junior Copley's cafe in Albion where she met the love of her life, Jack Green. They were married on June 8, 1947 at the Albion Christian Church. Over the years, they moved as needed with Jack's company, Bethlehem Steel...from Albion to Salem to Grayville, IL. Next, they moved to Abilene followed by Odessa, TX and finally, they settled in Tulsa, OK. Pearl and Jack were always very involved in the churches they attended and made many good friends along the way. Pearl was a skilled seamstress, gardener and homemaker. She loved worshiping God and serving people. If you knew her, you likely received one of her garden bouquets or a baked item at some point when you needed encouragement. Chances are you sat on a church pew she polished on a Saturday afternoon. You might have worn an angel costume she sewed for the Bethlehem Walk in Tulsa. And if you were a neighbor, you likely received an invitation to visit her church to hear about her Lord. She and Jack were also intentional about staying connected with family. They enjoyed traveling to visit them as they collected information for their genealogy books. In 2018, at the request of their daughters, they moved to Alton, IL. In summary, Pearl was a godly woman who loved Jesus and trusted in His Word. She will be remembered as a consistent prayer warrior, faithful wife, hard-working mother, devoted grandmother / great grandmother and a compassionate friend. She loved beauty and created it wherever she was.
