Peggy Joyce Carney, age 81, passed away peacefully on August 11, 2024, at her home in Eufaula, Oklahoma. Born on May 23, 1943, at St. Anthony Hospital in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Peggy lived a life full of love, laughter, and devotion to her family and community.
Peggy was preceded in death by her father Charles Windsor, mother Gladys Windsor, husband Bobby Hughes, husband Harley Carney, brother Herman Windsor, daughter-in-law Diana Hughes, Chrissy Hughes, son-in-law Chris King, stepdaughter Tina Carney, and granddaughter Crystal Franklin. Despite the many losses she endured, Peggy's strength and spirit never wavered.
She is survived by a large and loving family, including her sister-in-law Nancy Windsor, son Charles Hughes, daughter Sherry King, stepdaughter Dina and husband Alan Mikel, stepson Harley Carney Jr., granddaughter Marissa and husband Austin Finley, granddaughter Maegan Hughes and fiance Andrew Nelson, grandson Waylon and wife Sheridan Schiwart, grandson William Schiwart, grandson Walker and wife Brooke Schiwart, granddaughter Carrie Davis, grandson Chris King Jr., granddaughter Brittany and husband Justin White, grandson James King, granddaughter Jennifer Mikel, granddaughter Olivia and Daniel Mikel, 19 great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Peggy's family was her greatest achievement, and she cherished every moment spent with them.
Peggy was a talented cosmetologist, a career that began after she graduated from high school and cosmetology school. She fulfilled her dream of owning her own business, Peggy's Beauty Shop, in Oklahoma City which she closed to begin working at Ed Londagon Hair Salon. In total she did hair for 40+ years. Her clients loved her not only for her skills but for the warmth and friendship she offered to everyone who sat in her chair.
Outside of her work, Peggy was a woman of many passions. Her faith never wavered in believing Gods promise, this is something she was very passionate about. She loved gardening, solving puzzles, making clothes and costumes, and crafting holiday decorations. She also enjoyed trips to the casino and had a special fondness for collecting cows and Santa Claus figurines. Her kitchen was always open for family gatherings, where she delighted in cooking for her loved ones.
Peggy never met a stranger, and her gift for conversation and storytelling made her a beloved figure in her community. One of her favorite sayings was, "her father told her all good girls are home by dark," a piece of wisdom she often shared with a smile. During bible study, she once told Milton Allen that he needed to become a preacher, and she was proud to be one of the original members of Piney Creek Fellowship Church.
Peggy's life will be celebrated with a viewing at Moore Funeral Homes - Southlawn Chapel, 9350 East 51st Street, Tulsa, Oklahoma on August 15, 2024, from 11:00 am to 8:00 pm.
Peggy Joyce Carney leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and a life well-lived. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but her spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
