Peggy Jean Hayes said she would live to be 90 years old and, on her birthday, January 24, 2025, she reached that goal. Peggy passed to her heavenly home one month later, on February 24, 2025.
Born in 1935 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Joseph Albert Vanzant and Myrl Rachel (Claypool) Vanzant, Peggy was the youngest child and had four brothers and one sister. She grew up in Tulsa and later lived in Oceanside, California where she met and married the love of her life, Marine Sgt. Jesse O. Hayes. Together they celebrated 60 years of marriage.
Peggy was totally devoted to raising their family and was a true picture of a virtuous woman. She loved God and was kind, generous, patient, courageous, dependable, a hard worker, joyful and playful, among many other characteristics.
Peggy is survived by her three children Donna Murray (John), Glenda Roberts, and Ronnie Hayes. In her life she was blessed to have six grandchildren Lisa (Waylon), Cyndi (Brent), Angela (Russell), Michael (Robyn), Chris (Angie), Eric; ten great grandchildren Stacy (Brandon), Samantha (Dustin), Skylar, Kailey (Tommy), Kevin, Rylan, Chandler, Conner, Anderson, and Clara Joy; four great great grandchildren Phoenix, Thea, Braylen, Kingston, and one more boy on the way. Peggy loved her role as wife, mom, and Mimi.
Peggy returned to school and became a Registered Nurse at the age of 43. She worked with patients experiencing neurological injuries and illnesses, at Saint Francis Hospital until she retired.
Mimi had many favorite things. She loved listening to Jesse play the piano. She loved vacationing, especially in Hawaii. She loved moving furniture, painting, decorating, trying new things, sewing, knitting, loved to crochet and make crafts. Summer was her favorite time of the year, and she loved gardening, swimming, nature, and pets. She also loved watching it snow in the winter.
Her favorite Bible verse was Romans 8:38-39
"For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord."
We love you Mimi and we will see you again!
