Perry A. Ayers, Jr., 81, of Broken Arrow, went on to rest with Jesus on Monday, October 7, 2019 after a hard fought battle with Lewy Body Dementia. He was born on October 1, 1938 at Ft. Gibson, OK to Perry Arthur Ayers and Sarah Ona McCulley Ayers. He married Mildred M. Hoos on July 3, 1959 in Muskogee and she survives him.
A Marine Corps veteran, Mr. Ayers became a certified optician in civilian life and worked for many years as a manager for Empire Optical. Earlier in his career, he was a manager for Bausch & Lomb Optical Laboratories. He was a member of the Church of God 7th Day and had served as Lay Preacher, Sabbath School Teacher and Deacon. He had also been involved in numerous activities in the community including co-founding Northwest Arkansas Children's Home and Coalition for Family Justice.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 sisters, Ruth Potts and Lois Whitley and 2 brothers, Jimmy and Charles Ayers. In addition to his wife, he is survived by 2 daughters, Laura Ann Vasquez and Karen Elizabeth Beisel; a son, Perry "Sonny" Arthur Ayers, III and his wife Jana; 10 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters, Wanda Long, Janet Lanier and Sharon Willis, 2 brothers, George and Ronnie Ayers; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Perry A. Ayers, Jr. will be on Friday, October 11, 2019 - 10:00 AM at Church of God 7th Day, 13902 E. 11th St., Tulsa. Interment will be at Hogan Cemetery in Locust Grove, OK. Viewing 10-7pm with the family receiving friends 4-7pm on Thursday at Moore's Southlawn Chapel, 9350 E. 51st St, Tulsa, OK.
