Philip Clark Hawkins of Tulsa, Oklahoma was born October 18, 1942 in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Son of the late Joseph Clark Jr. and the late Jean Hawkins, he is survived by his loving wife Marion of 45 years and beloved son, Matthew Clark. His brother Jeff and wife Marilyn Hawkins, and their children Heather, Courtney, and Kendra. His sister Cheryl and her husband David Dearing, and their children Kristen, Daniel and Jacob. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Merle and husband Mohammad Khan, and their children, Sheila, Shawna, Selena, and Amber. Phil was also a great uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Phil graduated from Huntsville High School in 1960, where he played four years of football and baseball. Phil was a very active student, serving as football team co-captain and class treasurer. He was also a member of the letterman's club, science club, and school newspaper. Phil was always very well-liked by his peers and was awarded 'Senior's Most Popular' and 'Best All-Around Boy.'
In 1966, Phil received a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from Southwestern State College in Weatherford, OK. He was on the President's Honor Roll with a 4.0 grade point average and obtained the second-highest score among 103 pharmacy students. Phil's efforts and accomplishments were widely recognized. After graduation, he was offered a scholarship from Purdue and was later approached by the Food and Drug Administration to work as an inspector for the agency.
Phil instead began his career with an internship at Jubilee City in Tulsa, where he filled his very first prescription. The following year he began working at Getman Drugs, where he met a sales clerk, Marion Caylor, who stole his heart. With the announcement of their engagement, Getman elected to keep the pharmacist and let the sales clerk go. Upon hearing this news, Marion ecstatically took her unemployment check and purchased her wedding gown. The happy couple married on February 15th, 1969 at Grace Lutheran Church in Tulsa, where he was later confirmed into the congregation. Phil enjoyed a long and successful career, retiring from Walgreens after 37 years. Even to this day, he maintained his certifications and involvement in the pharmaceutical community through continuous education.
One of Phil's proudest accomplishments was the birth of his son Matthew Clark on July 31st, 1971. Starting at an early age, Phil passed down his passion for sports to his son. He not only enjoyed watching the games, but believed they taught valuable lessons to guide you through life. Phil spent his best times with Matt going to games of all kind, especially rooting for TU and the OKC Thunder. And the two never missed a moment to watch the Sooners, Cowboys or Razorbacks on the big screen. Phil also loved taking the family to watch NASCAR live, vacations in Branson, and going to the Drillers' Stadium on the 4th of July to watch the game and the fireworks.
Health and fitness were also very important to Phil. He enjoyed encouraging others to eat healthy and live well, and he exercised regularly at the gym. Phil was sentimental and sincere, always making time for a phone call on a birthday or anniversary, or even just to say hello. His favorite times he had were spent with his family, his cat, and cruising in the Dodge Challenger with his talking GPS guide, 'Lilly'.
Throughout his life, Phil was always optimistic, seeing the bright side in any situation. He was loving, kind, and quick to give a compliment. We are so very fortunate to have had him in our lives. He is greatly loved and will be dearly missed.
