Obituary
Auditor Philip Warren Wood, CFA, CIA, the longest serving elected official in the in the history of Tulsa, 88, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather,World War II Veteran, graduate of Princeton University died at St. John Medical Center from complications of lymphoma on November 20, 2013. His was a life well lived.
He won eleven elections. He was Tulsa City Auditor for 21 years, starting in 1988 spanning the charter change from Commission to Council. He demonstrated efficiency, integrity and innovation. He loved this job.
He retired from Cities Service Corporation as Executive Vice President and CFO. He then taught at the Business School of the University of Kansas as executive in residence and secured a CFA degree finishing in the top 3% of the nation.
He served as a board member or officer of the: Tulsa Opera, Tulsa Girl Scouts,
Arts and Humanities Council, International Council of Tulsa, Tulsa Global Alliance, Hispanic American Foundation, Chamber Music Tulsa, Oklahoma Police Pension Board, O. U. Business School Board of Governors, Tulsa Chapter of Internal Auditors, Audit Committee of the Tulsa Housing Authority and the Princeton Club.
His awards include Auditor of the Year, Global Vision Award, Boss of the Year, Award of the Americas.
He loved and was loved deeply by his wife of 67 years, Emily; daughter, Martha;
sons, Benjamin, Arthur and Warren; Grandchildren, Cynde, Jason, Sam, Nick, Jon,
Celeste, Virginia, Sami and Zane; also five great-grandchildren.
The family wishes to thank Dr. John Hubner and staff members of St. John Medical
Center for very compassionate care. In lieu, of flowers family and friends are
contributing to the American Red Cross, 10151 East 11th Street, Tulsa, Oklahoma 74114, in recognition of the many transfusions which he received. A Memorial Service will be held at All Souls Unitarian Church, 2952 South Peoria Avenue at 1:00 p. m. on Wednesday, November 27, 2013.
