Ralph, 86, died Friday, September 5, 2014 in Wildwood Care Center in Tulsa after a valiant fight with Parkinson's Disease.
Ralph's life is the story of loyalty, family, good friends and laughter.
Ralph was born in Parrottsville, Tennessee on December 28, 1927. He was raised on the family farm and attended a "one-room" school until he turned 15. The family then moved to Richmond Hill, Georgia and Ralph attended High School. He told wonderful stories about his childhood and his dogs – with some "slight" exaggerations – like "Old Blue" the hunting dog, Bugler who hunted by size and a third dog who was bitten by a snake and had to use a siren for his voice thereafter.
Ralph was drafted into the Army Air Corps during the last years of WWII. Following his discharge he attended the College of the Ozarks until the Korean War broke out. Ralph joined the Air Force and served in the Korean War in Okinawa as a staff sergeant
In 1951 Ralph came to Tulsa, Oklahoma and worked at American Airlines for 44 years. The ring Ralph always wore has the AmAir logo and was made for him by a friend. Ralph helped found the AmAir Toastmasters Club in 1979. When he retired in 1992 he devoted himself to Toastmasters where he told humorous stories, mentored hundreds, and served as chief judge for an untold number of speech contests. Over the years he was honored as a Dedicated Toastmaster, The Fun Guy, and as a White Hat Award recipient. Plain old toastmasters honor him calling him friend and wanting to be like him when they grow up. Ralph was also a fine artist and friends have his beautifully executed colored pencil portraits of their loved ones hanging in their homes.
Ralph met his dear long-time friend, Pat Noren, at church in 1962. Ralph and Pat have been an important part of the Sonshine Singles Sunday School Class at Eastwood Baptist Church for the past 20+ years.
Ralph is survived by three beloved sisters and brothers-in-laws: Vonda and Bud Isbell and Sylvia and Wilbur Harris of Tennessee and Mildred and Horace Williams of Georgia and many adored nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at Moore Funeral Home – Eastlawn Chapel in Tulsa (1908 S. Memorial) on Monday 09/08/14 at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to:
