Obituary

Ramona Jett May declared her Independence from her earthly body on July 4, 2014. Ramona J. May was born Ramona Jett on August 15, 1928, the second child of William and Faye Jett of Tyronza, AR. Ramona was an athletic girl who loved sports. When she was younger, she was a star player on her high school basketball team. In one game, she scored more points than the whole opposing team combined! Ramona grew up on a cotton farm and was very proud of her farming heritage. Ramona attended Arkansas State Teachers College and was a member of Delta Sigma Epsilon sorority.

She obtained her teaching degree and taught Physical Education. She then went to work at the Army Arsenal in Pine Bluff. While working at the Arsenal, she agreed to go on a "blind" double date and met her favorite dance partner and love of her life, John David May. Ramona and John were married on May 10, 1953 and remained married for nearly 59 years until his death in 2012. Ramona quit working outside the home to raise their three daughters. Ramona was very involved in her children's lives…she was a "Mom" in so many ways…she was a Sunday School "Mom", a Home Room "Mom", a PTA "Mom", a Brownie Troop Leader, a Girl Scout Troop Leader, and the "Official Scorekeeper" for countless numbers of softball games. Ramona loved gardening and was always happy to share her home grown vine ripened tomatoes with friends and family. She loved feeding birds and took much delight in hummingbirds and doves. She was sweetness, personified.

Ramona was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband John and her sweetest daughter Karen. Ramona is survived by her daughters Marsha May Dobric and Mary Ann Holbrook, sons-in-law Daniel Dobric and Tom Holbrook, and grandsons Carson Dobric and Ryan Dobric. Ramona is also survived by her sister Vivian McGibbony, her brother Robert Pettigrew Jett, sister-in- law Thelma Jett, and their families. Ramona's family would like to thank the teams at Franklin Park of Lewisville, Sterling House of Lewisville, Sandy Lake Rehabilitation Center of Coppell, and Hospice Plus North Texas for the assistance provided in caregiving for Ramona in her later years.
