Ray Melvin Morris
January 26, 1919 – April 3, 2015
Born at home to William Lead Morris and Ida Mae Flesher Morris in Guthrie, Oklahoma. He had three older brothers and one sister. He proudly served his country in the Army and was a World War II Veteran. After his return, he and Burnice Eva Rodgers were married and made Tulsa their home. They adopted a son, Gary Ray Morris at the age of 18 months and 12 years later adopted a little 6 year old girl, MaryAnn.
Ray and Burnice were faithful servants of the Lord and worked with children at First Baptist Church, Tulsa for many years. Ray worked for Skelly Oil Company for 35 years and retired with Getty Oil Company in the late 1970's.
Ray loved his family, fishing, gardening, playing games and working puzzles with his grandchildren and genealogy. He wished to be in Heaven for Easter and left his earthly home on Good Friday.
He leaves behind his beloved daughter, MaryAnn and husband Michael Callahan; grandchildren: Shanan Casey and Shelby and husband Jack Brock; great-grandchildren: Lauren Casey, Jacklynn Brock, Matthew Casey, Madison Casey, Ashlynn Brock and Katelynn Brock. He also leaves his son, Gary and wife Velta Morris; grandchildren: Gary Jr., Kevin, Michelle, Carrie and Kim Morris; and several nieces and nephews.
Ray is preceded in death by his parents, brothers and sister, his loving wife Burnice of 62 years and grandson-in-law, Thomas Casey.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 – 8:00 pm on Monday, April 6, 2015 at Moore's Southlawn Chapel, 9350 E. 51st Street, Tulsa, Oklahoma 74145.Funeral service will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at Memorial Park Cemetery Chapel with Rev. Deron Spoo officiating. Burial will follow with Military Honors at Memorial Park Cemetery.
