Obituary

Ray Ronald Phillips was born December 6, 1933 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Katherine V. Acosta and Edmond L. Phillips Sr., and passed away on March 3, 2024. A lifelong racing fan, Ray opted to attend the Indianapolis 500 with his twin brother Roy rather than receive his degree in person from Rogers High School in Tulsa.

Dedicated to a career in the automotive industry, he began at a young age at a local service station before moving to a nearby auto store in downtown Tulsa. It was at this store that he met his wife, Martha. Mr. Phillips eventually transitioned to the Crane Carrier Corporation, moving up the ranks, living briefly in Chicago and Canada before settling back home in Tulsa for good. Following his retirement from Crane Carrier, Mr. Phillips founded National Truck Parts in Tulsa.

After retirement, Mr. Phillips became a dedicated member of Tulsa Habitat for Humanity's Tuesday Morning Miracle Workers , serving in their woodworking shop and new house construction. His proudest contribution was the donation of lots owned by his grandmother, Susie Baker, located on Jamestown. These lots became the site of two new homes, constructed by the Tuesday Morning Miracle Workers.

A dedicated husband, father, and grandfather, Mr. Phillips was known for his love of family, strong faith and convictions, the automotive and trucking industries, and above all else, car races. He and his wife Martha enjoyed taking annual trips to Arkansas to their daughter's farm for family Thanksgivings, watching the Wizard of Oz with their granddaughters, and taking long road trips to visit family far and wide-or just to see about buying a new truck part.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Martha F. Phillips, his brothers Edmond L. Phillips Jr., and his twin Roy D. Phillips, and his dog Pooh. He is survived by his brother Jim R. Phillips; daughter Katherine E. Earlywine (Jerry); son David E. Phillips (Gwyn); granddaughters Michelle L. Lane (Ethan), Lauren E. Mata (Ryan); great grandsons Thatcher W. Lane and Wolfgang D. Mata; two nieces and three nephews.
