Raymond Gerald Boyd, 78, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, March 27, 2020 in Tulsa, OK. He was born November 20, 1941 in Rogers, AR to the late Raymond M. Boyd and Florence Mildred Boyd. He graduated from high school in Rogers, AR in 1959 in top 10 of 120 graduates. Raymond received his B.S.E. January 1964 from the University of Arkansas and an M.A. in English, December 1969 from The University of Tulsa. He received his Ed. S (Certified Reading Specialist) from Pittsburg State University, Kansas in 1980 and completed a five week training course as a nursing assistant from Tulsa Vo-Tech in 1987.
Raymond taught in Tulsa Public Schools and NEO A & M in Miami for a total of 22 years teaching English, Freshman Composition, Creative Writing and Publications, British Literature, and Remedial Reading. He published Centennial History of the First Baptist Church, Baxter Springs, KS. He also worked in customer relation for four years at Citgo Petroleum. Raymond was self-employed at Charles-Ray Services and Charles Carpet Care until he retired in 1998 doing painting, landscaping and carpet cleaning.
Raymond was a charter member of Sunnyside Baptist Church where he served in the senior adult's department for 22 years and served in Christian community activities. He also attended First United Methodist Church in Tulsa but since 2000 he has attended Tulsa Bible Church.
Raymond was passionate about everything he did. He enjoyed leading youth activities, volunteering his services at the church, playing the organ and working in the garden and yard. He was known for having a green thumb and friends were always giving him their plants to bring them back to health.
Raymond is survived by his sister, Connie Lee (Boyd) Smallwood; niece, Mitzi Smallwood Evans and husband Allen Evans, nephews, Danny and Joshua Smallwood; grand nephews, Steven, Bryan, and Noah Evans; grand nieces, Mackenzie and Briley Smallwood; cousins, Donna Miller, Joyce Cumbic, Judy McNeill, Cherie and Vicki Reams, and many others.
In lieu of flowers, Raymond requested contributions be made in his memory to the Children's Department of Tulsa Bible Church 5838 S. Sheridan, Tulsa, Ok 74135
Private family graveside service will be held on Tuesday April 7, 2020 in Benton County Memorial Park, Rogers, Arkansas.
