Obituary

Rhoda Lee Wilkins Nevenner, passed in the early morning hours of Tuesday, September 15, 2026, in Overland Park, Kansas. Rhoda was a few weeks shy of her 96th birthday.

Visitation will be held on Monday, September 21, 2026, from 6:00PM to 8:00PM at Moore Funeral Home Southlawn Chapel, 9350 E. 51st in Tulsa. Services celebrating her life and her faith will be held on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, at 10:00AM in the Chapel at Metro Pentecostal Church, 5925 East 51st Street in Tulsa.

Rhoda was born October 24, 1930, in Tulsa, Oklahoma to the late Rev. Leo Clyte and Rhoda Priscilla Brown Upton. She attended public school in the Tulsa area and graduated from Okmulgee High School, where she participated in the Choral Club. Rhoda went on to attend and graduate from The Apostolic Bible College in Tulsa. Growing up as a preacher's kid, Rhoda had a very strong faith and was always very musically and vocally gifted. She began playing the piano at a young age in church and continued throughout her life to share her gift with the congregations where she attended both on the piano and the organ. Rhoda met her future husband, Emmett Simeon Wilkins, while attending bible college. They were married October 1, 1949, in Tulsa. Together they pastored the Skelly Drive United Pentecostal Church for many years. Simeon preceded her in death in 1998. Rhoda married again to Andrew Allen Nevenner, Sr. , they shared several special years together before Andy's passing in 2007.

Rhoda worked in the telecommunications industry for Radio Relay Communications, where she sold and serviced pagers for numerous years. She was the top salesperson many times for her major accounts. In her almost 96 years, Rhoda always carried her faith in the Lord with her daily and leaned heavily on her church family. In most recent years she was a faithful member of Metro Pentecostal Church in Tulsa.

Rhoda was preceded in death by her parents, Rev. Leo Clyte Upton and Rhoda Priscella Brown Upton; the father of her children, Emmett Simeon Wilkins and her second husband, Andy Nevenner, Sr.; her brother and sister-in-law, Bishop Leo Paul Upton and Helen Godwin Upton; her sons, Stephen Mark Wilkins and Stanley Keith Wilkins, 2 infant babies; along with several extended family members.

Rhoda is survived by her son, Stuart Wayne Wilkins and his wife, Sue; her beloved granddaughters, Madison Nicole Wilkins and Taylor Grace Wilkins; her sister, Nancy Sharon Harger and her husband, Charles; along with numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

Isaiah 40:31: "But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary; they will walk and not be faint."
