Richard (Dick) Daniel Dunn, age 92, passed away on February 7th, 2023, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was born on August 24th, 1930, in Strawberry Plains, Tennessee.
Richard was predeceased by his wives Marian (Rossiter) Dunn and Joyce (Emerson) Dunn, his parents Richard Sr. and Ona (Wright) Dunn, and two sisters Helen Kodesh and Lita Wilson.
He is survived by his children: Amy and (Don) Riker, Patricia and (Walter) Gough, Cynthia Gorrell, Jim Gorrell, Judy Caldwell, and Tom Emerson; his grandchildren: Jennifer and (Andrew) Aukerman, April Riker, Mason Gough, Natalie Gough, Emily Gorrell, Allison Gorrell, and Olivia Gorrell; and great-grandchildren: Andrea Aukerman and Ryker Aukerman. He is also survived by his sister Judy Heskett, his lifelong best friend Charles Cook, and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Richard graduated from Webster High School, where he ran track and field, and went on to attend the University of Tulsa. While attending TU, He was a member of Alpha Kappa Psi Fraternity and earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree with a major in marketing and minor in business management, in 1958. He served in the Navy for 4 years from 1951-1954, where he earned the National Defense Service Medal while serving on the U.S.S. Albert T. Harris DE447 Escort, alongside his best friend Charlie.
Richard had many interests and hobbies, including cars, painting with both oil and watercolor, fishing, collecting stamps, miniature trains, and bird watching. He was even the president of the Oil Capital Car Club in 1967. He was a longtime member of Highland Park Christian Church and loved spending time with his friends and family, but especially his grandchildren to whom he was known as Papa.
Richard lived a full and meaningful life, with a deep love for his family and friends, and a passion for many hobbies and interests. His service in the Navy and devotion to his faith and church community are a testament to his character and values and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him, including the Zarrow Pointe Care Team who loved him dearly and took such great and compassionate care of him during his last 3 years.
Visitation will be 2:00pm to 8:00pm Friday, February 10, 2023 at the Moore Funeral Home, Southlawn Chapel. Funeral Service will be 10:00am, Saturday, February 11, 2023 at Moore's Southlawn Chapel, 9350 East 51st, Tulsa, Oklahoma, followed by burial at Floral Haven Cemetery, Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.
