IN LOVING MEMORY OF RICHARD MICHAEL GOODMAN
Richard Goodman loved his Savior Jesus Christ.
Richard was the beloved first born of Wilber and Miriam Goodman, at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, where his father was stationed in the army, August 17, 1942.
Richard was soon joined by a little brother, Phillip, and two little sisters, Tracy and Robin, born in Seminole, Oklahoma, where the family had moved. Richard grew up there, walking and riding his bicycle all over town, graduating from Seminole High School in 1960.
In those growing-up days, and ever since to this very day, Richard is our beloved "Big Brother"--always cheerful, smiling, laughing!
Richard attended Park College in Missouri, East Central College in Ada, OK, and then graduated with a music and teaching degree at North Texas State University. He taught music in the Dallas and Anadarko, OK public schools, and later worked for the Oklahoma Journal Newspaper in Oklahoma City.
On August 17, 1977, his birthday, and the same day Elvis Presley died, Richard was attacked and robbed in his sleep. He remained in a coma for 10 days with severe head and eye injuries. This day stands out in our memory for obvious reasons. But especially as a demonstration of God's love and grace to our "big brother", for the doctors could not say that he would ever wake up--or, if so, recover functionally. But God woke Richard up, and returned his ability to live and work, his first job being at a boys home in Oklahoma City.
Later Richard moved with his mother to Tulsa, where he made his career at Goodwill Industries. There, he was recognized for his work by both the company and the Tulsa Newspapers. He was honored at his retirement in 2006 at Goodwill Industries Annual Awards Banquet.
Since that time Richard continued an active life, engaging with family on every holiday, birthday, and every possible opportunity in between, with stories, fun, jokes, and laughter--the very things that define Richard's personality and our memories and love for our "big brother", uncle, and family patriarch. He departed this life on February 17, 2025 "to be at home with the Lord" (2 Cor 5:8) . Because of Jesus and His love for you, and your faith in Him, Richard
