Ricky C. Cariker, 54, a horse trainer, entered into eternal life on January 11, 2015. Ricky was a head injury survivor since 1982. Rick sustained his brain injury while showing his favorite horse named Panson at a horse show.
He was born December 19, 1960, in Tulsa, OK to Jack and Freda Cariker. He grew up in Tulsa and Mounds, graduating from Bixby High School in 1979 where he participated in baseball, as well as various school clubs. Ricky was elected president of his FFA Chapter his senior year. Ricky attended the University of Tulsa and Rogers State College where he received his horsemanship training.
After school, Rick started his own business, Cariker Quarter Horses at his family ranch in Mounds, OK where he showed and trained working cowhorse and reining quarter horses. During his career Ricky was Youth World Reining Champion along with various other championships won throughout the Midwest.
Even after his horse accident Ricky continued his passion for training and animals by working for Therapeutic Dog Training, also in Mounds.
Ricky was preceded in death by his father, Jack Cariker, Sr. He is survived by his mother, Freda Cariker of Mounds, his brother, Jack Cariker of Tulsa. Nephew Blake Cariker and his wife Kati of OKC and their daughter Madison. Niece Molly Cariker also of OKC. He is also survived by his sister Kerry Gilligan of Ft. Worth. Nephew David Gilligan of Ft. Worth. Niece Amy Cook and her husband Chris and their two daughters Alex and Cammie, Cook of Ft. Worth. He is also survived by his uncle Bob Hamlin and his wife Pat of Bakersfield, CA. Aunt Pat Wilson and husband Gary of Stigler, OK. Rick will certainly be missed by all the lives he touched throughout the years.
The Funeral service will be at 11:00 am on Monday, January 19, 2015 at Moore's Southlawn Chapel. 9350 E. 51st, Tulsa, OK.
