Robert Beattie Phillips, age 87, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, passed away on February 2, 2017. He was the grandson of Frank and Jane Phillips, and the son of John G. Phillips and Mildred Beattie Grimshaw.
Bob is preceded in death by his older brother, John G. Phillips, Jr., an older sister, Elizabeth "Betty" Irwin, and his twin brother, Frank Harley Phillips, II. After attending The University of Tulsa, Bob launched a long career in advertising and public relations with The Phillips Agency. His accounts were as eclectic as his enthusiasms. Whether Bob represented a national bank, a local car dealership, or Jimmy Dean Sausage, his abiding interest was putting the right people together in business and in life. He later co-founded Phillips and Johnson, the agency that bears his name today.
Bob successfully battled alcoholism and was a stalwart member of AA for 54 years. He sponsored scores of young men fighting their way out of substance abuse, and his efforts changed many lives.
In addition to his involvement with AA and the Oil Capital Group in Tulsa, Bob served on the Board of Directors of the Frank Phillips Foundation. He was an early supporter of Tulsa Boys' Home. Late in life, he converted to Catholicism, becoming a member of Holy Family Cathedral in Tulsa.
Bob was known for caring for everyone including his family, friends and countless people who struggled with various forms of addiction. We will miss him, greatly.
