Robert "Bob" Essner, loving father and grandfather, died January 9, 2015 at the age of 90. Bob was born February 28, 1924 in Nowata, OK to William Nicholas and Helen (Ressel) Essner. The family then moved to Paola, Kansas where Bob grew up and attended school. He graduated from Paola High School and then attended University of Kansas in Topeka. Bob served during WWII from 1943-1945 as a draftsman on aircraft modification in the U.S. Army Air Corp in New Caledonia in the South Pacific east of Australia. Upon his return from the war, Bob was employed by TransContinental Western Air in Kansas City. He married Esther Waugh in 1946 and they had four children. Bob moved his family to Tulsa in 1951 for a job with Treco as a petroleum piping designer. He would remain in the Tulsa area for the rest of his life. Bob enjoyed woodworking and fly fishing and his favorite spot was Roaring River State Park in Missouri. Bob married Ruby McNair Dixon in 1978 and they were married until her death in 2012. Bob was also preceded in death by his son, Robert Jr. and three sisters, Kathryn, Florence and Elizabeth. He is survived by daughter, Rita New of Tulsa, son Bill Essner and wife Dena of Houston, daughter Jan Johnson and husband Lyle of Broken Arrow, step-daughter, Paula Erlandsen and husband Pete, step-son Bob Bashaw and wife Suzanne. Bob had thirteen grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren of which he was so very proud. Service will be 10:00 Saturday at Church of the Madalene, 22nd and Harvard.
