Obituary

Robert Hansel (Bob) Johnson passed away on October 18, 2015 at his son's home in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Bob was 87 years old. He died in his sleep, very much at peace.

Bob was born on July 15, 1928 in Tulsa to Hansel B. Johnson and Opal Wilson Johnson. He graduated from Central H.S. in 1946 and Oklahoma Agricultural and Mechanical College in 1950. In 1952 he married the love of his life, Joan Inhofe. The couple was blessed with four sons.

Bob served in the Pacific Ocean Theater of the US Air Force Strategic Air Command, piloting B-29s on missions measuring radiation levels in French atom bomb tests and typhoon wind speeds.

In 1955 he founded Bob H. Johnson Inc., a Tulsa insurance and bond agency. Bob was a successful insurance agent and real estate developer.

He gave generously to many worthy charities. He was especially proud of the work of The Rotary Club of Tulsa where he served as President in 1983 and was the founding contributor to the club's endowment of the International Crescendo Music Awards, supporting classical music students.
Bob and Joan enjoyed traveling the world together. More than anything the couple cherished relationship with their children, extended family and friends. They attended First Christian Church and later, Tulsa Bible Church.

Bob was preceded in death by his wife, parents and sister (Jolayne Hinkel of Amherst, Massachusetts). He is survived by four sons and their spouses, James Johnson (Rebekah Shields) of Berkeley, California, Jeff Johnson (Connie) of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Doug Johnson of Los Angeles, California and Steven Johnson (Ravina) of McAllen, Texas; six grandchildren, Andrew Johnson, Kate McAllister, Jenna Johnson, Perry Johnson, Caleb Johnson, and Corina Shields Johnson; one great grandchild, Hansel Johnson; and thirteen nephews and nieces.

Following a life-threatening stroke, Bob with his family and friends, were blessed with four unexpected years of life, filled with healing, affirming and loving moments. In some ways Bob was happier and more at peace in the final years of his life than at any time previously. This was in part due to the loving support of his caregivers and especially his primary caregiver, Chinta Aguayo de Blanco, whom he loved as a daughter.

A memorial service celebrating his life will be held Saturday, November 28, 2015, 10:00 a.m. in Tulsa, at First Christian Church, 913 S. Boulder Ave. Memorial contributions can be made in lieu of flowers to: Rotary Club of Tulsa Foundation, 616 S. Boston Ave., Ste. 410, Tulsa, OK 74119; Oklahoma Jazz Hall of Fame, 5 S.
