Obituary

MELOTT, Robert Nelson, 83, passed away Wednesday, March 2, 2016 in Tulsa, OK. He was born May 8, 1932 in Chester, WV to Charles Frank and Ida Mae Melott who precedes him in death.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Patricia J. Melott; two children, Shelly L. (Steve) Thomas, and Robert M. (Margo) Melott; five grandchildren, Shaun Thomas, Kathryn Thomas, Seth Thomas, Brent Melott and Taylor (Dakota) Melott.

Bob was a servant of Jesus Christ and a member of Southern Hills Baptist Church. Bob was raised in Chester, WV and was the youngest of eight children. Growing up he worked several part-time jobs including in the steel mills, on state roads, and at an amusement park as well as played baseball, basket-ball, and football. He was student council president and was voted outstanding senior boy by the faculty.

He went to Bethany College in West Virginia on an athletic scholarship and after 1 1/2 years he joined the Air Force. He served in Saudi Arabia as a lab tech and played on the Air Force basketball team. After the service, he finished his Bachelor's Degree in Biology and Chemistry at Bethany and completed his Master's Degree in Education at Marshall where he met his wife, Patricia.

Bob has worked at Broward Community College in Florida, Florida Atlantic University, and Tarrant County Junior College in Texas. He finished his career as Vice President of Tulsa Community Junior College where he served for 25 years.

He was very active in the Sunrise South Rotary Club in Tulsa where he served as president. He also served as District Governor of Rotary District 6110. He has served in many roles in the Oklahoma Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers including the presidency.
Likewise, Bob served as President of the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers. Bob was a gifted leader and a wonderful husband and father. He used his God-given gifts to serve others in the communities where he lived and beyond.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Southern Hills Baptist Church, Tulsa Community College, or Rotary International.
