Obituary

Robert Clarkson "Bob" Millspaugh Jr.

"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith" (2 Timothy 4:7). Bob Millspaugh, a truly kind and humble servant of God, returned home to the Lord on January 20, 2013. Bob was born on July 4, 1925 in Oklahoma City, OK to Robert and Laura Millspaugh. After high school, he spent four years in the Field Artillery branch of the United States Army before returning to the University of Oklahoma where he graduated with a degree in Geology. While in college, he served as President of Beta Theta Pi fraternity and was a member of Sigma Gamma Epsilon, an honorary geological society. On September 23, 1950, he married his wonderful wife, Millie, and that same year joined Cities Service Oil Company as a Geologist. His early career was spent in various cities throughout the United States as well as four years as Chief Geologist of Columbia-Cities Service in Bogotá, Columbia. Returning to the United States, he was Chief Geologist, and Manager of the Exploration Staff for Cities. He attended the Executive Management Program at Penn State and, upon retirement in 1985, was Director of Applied Research and Technology for Cities/Oxy. Upon retirement from Cities/Oxy, he joined The American Association of Petroleum Geologists, where he retired in 2002 as Geosciences Director.

Despite all the career success, Bob's greatest achievements in life stemmed from his unending patience and selfless kindness. Bob and Millie raised their only child, Clark, of whom they were immensely proud. Bob was a great encourager with an awesome smile and, as he quietly lived out James 1:19, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren never heard him speak an unkind word of any other person. Bob and Millie loved to travel the world with family and friends as well as donate their time and resources to various efforts. He ushered for over 20 years and served two terms as Senior Warden at St. John?s Episcopal Church, where he also served as co-chairman of the 40th and 50th anniversary additions and remodelings. He served on the Board of St. Simeons for 20 years, was a two term President, and served as Chairman of the Building Committee in 1994 during the building of the Memory Center and Alzheimer?s wing. He and Millie were co-chairmen of St. Simeons? Foundation in 2008-2009 and co-chaired the Masters Society of Philbrook in 1999-2000. He also volunteered at St. John?s Hospital and the Laureate out-patient clinic. He was a member of Southern Hills Country Club, Downtown Rotary Club and the Committee of 100. He has now been reunited in heaven with his parents and son, Clark. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Mildred (Millie) Robinson Millspaugh; daughter-in-law, Anne Millspaugh; two grandchildren Joe Millspaugh and Julie Beard; Joe's wife, Paige Millspaugh, and Julie's husband, Dusty Beard; and four great grandchildren Zachary and Reese Millspaugh and Max and Clark Beard, all of Tulsa; and his sister Germaine Clarkson of Greenville, TN . Services celebrating the life of Bob Millspaugh will be held on Friday, January 25th, at 2:00 pm at St. John's Episcopal Church, 4200 S. Atlanta Pl. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to his favorite charities:
