Obituary

Robert Alan Paulsen passed away peacefully on July 21st at the age of 94, three weeks shy of his 95th birthday. The fifth child of Grover and Lucile Paulsen, Robert was born in Savannah, Georgia, on August 13, 1930. Known as "Bob" to friends and family, he attended Carlisle Military Institute in Bamberg, South Carolina, and graduated in 1948. Then, he studied at University of Georgia, became a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity, and graduated with a degree in Chemistry in 1952. Joining the United States Air Force, Bob served as a Second Lieutenant in the Korean War. Upon return to the United States, he continued his service in the Air Force Reserves.

After leaving the military, Bob joined E. I. DuPont in Wilmington Delaware. There, he met the love of his life, Jean Louise Daddow, and they were married on April 21, 1956. Soon after their marriage, Bob was transferred to New York City, and the couple moved to Westfield, New Jersey, where they had their first two sons, Robert Jr., and Keith. In 1959, Bob was transferred again to Houston to work in petrochemical sales. Soon after, he and Jean were blessed with two additional sons, Richard and Stephen. He was a devoted father who enjoyed hunting, fishing, little league baseball, tennis, and boy scouts with his boys. In 1977, Bob was transferred to Tulsa, where he later became District Manager and ultimately retired after 32 years of service to DuPont. Post retirement, he remained active in the field as a sales consultant for W.R. Grace and Exxon Mobil Corporation.

Family was very important to Bob. He worked hard to provide every educational opportunity to his sons. Even later in life, Bob would spend countless hours babysitting his grandchildren, helping his sons with home projects, and getting the extended family together for reunions.

Beyond family, faith was most important to Bob. He lived by example and was a dedicated mentor to many. He served as an elder, chief elder, and elder emeritus at Christ the Redeemer Lutheran Church. He was also an avid member of Gideons International.

Affectionately known as the quintessential "southern gentleman," Bob will most be remembered for his unwavering love of his wife of 69 years, his devotion to God and to his family, a kindness that never faded, and the twinkle in those bright blue eyes. He is survived by his wife Jean, sons Bob Jr., Keith, Rick, and Steve, his brother Jay, eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting any donations be made to Christ the Redeemer Lutheran Church, Gideons International, or University of Georgia.
