Obituary

Robert R. Peters Sr., known by his family and many friends as Bob, or his boyhood nickname Buzz, passed away on November 26, 2020. Bob was the first-born son of Thomas Ray and Nadine Peters of Tulsa. He was the oldest of three boys. Bob and his brothers attended Union Public Schools with Bob's graduating class having a total of 13 students. Bob always liked to boast that he dated every girl in his class (...though there were only 5 of them)! Bob loved playing football, basketball, and baseball, as well as playing the trombone in the band.

After graduating from Union High, Bob attended Oklahoma A&M University (OSU) and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in petroleum geology. He then completed his graduate degree in geology from the University of Tulsa. Bob began his career as a geologist with Amerada Hess Corporation and spent most of his career in the oil and gas industry where he was renowned for his intellect in the field and his wonderful sense of humor. Bob always had an entrepreneurial spirit, starting several businesses and enjoying successful ventures over the years.

Upon graduation from OSU, Bob married Peggy Cosper and together they had two children, Robert R. Peters II (Beth) and Lori K. Shapleigh (Andrew). Bob was blessed with eight grandchildren. Bob's passions were many. He loved Jesus Christ and was a devout follower in the truest example, by serving his fellow man in numerous capacities. He served at Meals on Wheels, Eugene Field Elementary, Big Brothers and Sisters, Rotary Club, Sertoma Club, Gideons International, and the First United Methodist Choir, just to name a few. He and Peggy also taught Sunday school to young married couples for over 20 years. But it was always clear that his love for his family, whom he adored, was his favorite. He was so proud of his children and grandchildren, spending countless hours watching their sporting activities as they grew up, and offering valuable coaching advice all along the way.

Bob was a voracious reader, and mainly works of fiction. He loved golf and played many rounds at Oaks Country Club where he and Peggy were members. But his real love in the sports world was baseball, and particularly the St. Louis Cardinals. One of his great pleasures was watching his son and grandsons play youth, high school, and college baseball. In his later years after retirement, Bob enjoyed gardening (he achieved the certification of Master Gardener) and serving as resident grounds crew member for Regent Preparatory School's new baseball diamond.

As Bob's memory began to fade, his wonderful sense of humor remained as strong as ever. He delighted in being around his family and grandchildren, and thought the livelier and louder the gathering, the better.

With his joyful spirit and outgoing personality, there is no telling how many lives Bob impacted. Always one to engage, encourage, assist, and invest, many people have had their lives enriched by knowing Bob Peters.

Bob is preceded in death by his parents Thomas Ray and Nadine Peters. He is survived by his brothers Tom Peters (wife Ramona) of Walnut Springs, Texas, and Ron Peters of Pryor, Oklahoma. Bob is survived by his wife Peggy Peters, their son Robert R. Peters II, his wife Beth, daughters Cameron, Caroline and Caleigh, and son Robert R. Peters III. Bob is also survived by his daughter Lori Shapleigh, her husband Andrew, daughters Maddie and Liddie, and sons Drew and Evan.
