Obituary

Robert "Bob" Eugene Phaneuf passed away peacefully on December 16, 2024, surrounded by his family. Bob is remembered as having a kind heart, as well as being a wonderful provider, a loving dad, a sweet grandad, an avid reader, and a studier of history.
Bob was born on April 30, 1946, in Columbus, Mississippi to Colonel Eugene Oscar Phaneuf and Mary "Gregg" Gregory Phaneuf. The oldest of three brothers in a military family, Bob moved around quite a bit until family settled for a time in San Antonio at the Randolph Air Force Base. Bob graduated high school from Randolph Air Force Base High School in 1964 where he loved playing football as a wide receiver.
Bob then attended the University of Texas at Austin where he was a member of the Delta Tau Delta fraternity. He graduated in 1968 with Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology. Bob married Sheila Kay Wilson in 1969 and was in the Air National Guard of Texas until June 1971. He worked during that time in Houston until he returned to the University of Texas to pursue a Master of Business Administration in Finance, which he obtained in 1972. Upon his graduation, he began his career as a financial analyst at the First National Bank of Texas.
Bob went on to have a distinguished career as an oil and gas analyst for many years. He wrapped up his long career focusing on small oil & gas businesses as Vice President in Corporate Development at Vintage Petroleum from 1995-2006 and then held the same position at RAM Energy Resources, Inc from 2006 until his retirement in 2012.
The joy of Bob's life, his son Marshall, was born in 1973. Together they had many adventures including scuba diving, hunting, fishing, skeet shooting, and attending Marshall's wresting competitions. In 1997, Bob married Patricia "Patti" Oertle Phaneuf. Together they enjoyed their combined families and grandchildren. They also enjoyed sailing and boating, as well as spending time in Savannah, Georgia and later in Vero Beach, Florida.
After retirement, Bob developed a love of history, particularly World War II and the United States' contributions to its success. Bob was also an active member of the Advisory Board of the University of Texas College of Liberal Arts and a supporter of the UT Austin Thomas Jefferson Cetner for the Study of Core Texts and Ideas.
Bob is survived by his wife, Patti Phaneuf; his son Marshall Phaneuf (Carrie); granddaughters Margot Phaneuf and Estee Phaneuf; brothers Richard Phaneuf and John Phaneuf (Britt Marie); step-children Stacy McCabe (Stan) and Brian Favell (Liz); step-grandchildren Mason McCabe, Lauren McCabe, and Braden Favell; great niece Zoe Phaneuf; and Marshall's mother, Sheila Phaneuf.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas.
