Obituary

Robert ?Bob? Moehlenbrock Lukken (88), son of Albert Lukken, Dean of Music at the University of Tulsa, and Florence Lukken, voice teacher at the University of Tulsa, passed away peacefully on August 31, 2013. He was born in Owatonna, Minnesota on October 3, 1924, but was a lifetime resident of Tulsa. He attended Kendall Elementary, Woodrow Wilson Middle School and graduated from Will Rogers High School in 1942. He attended the V-12 Navy College Training Program at the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee and Radar School at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. He served one year at the Naval Base in Newport, Rhode Island. He returned to Tulsa where he graduated in 1948 with a B.S. in Business and was a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity. While in high school and college, Bob was the pianist for a dance band, performing music from the Big Band Era, when he attracted the eye of a young girl named Joann Stewart who was smitten with that fun-lovin?, good lookin? guy at the piano. She was the love of his life and they were married for 64 years. He was the founder and owner of Lukken Steel Construction Company and was instrumental in developing and building steel buildings in the industrial warehouse area in East Tulsa. Bob was a co-founder with his siblings of the Lukken Music Scholarship at the University of Tulsa. He was truly a good and honorable man from the ?Greatest Generation?. He was completely devoted to his wife and four girls, sons-in-law and ten grandchildren. His favorite hobbies were golf and bird hunting. He spent countless hours teaching his girls how to play golf at Oaks Country Club creating a father-daughter bond like no other. Over many years, he loved and trained many ?bird? dogs and included his daughters on hunts so they could learn to shoot and see the beauty of his dogs on point. His children were blessed by the best father a girl could ever have. Although he didn?t have buildings or highways named after him or articles about his success in the paper, there was no doubt that he was a man of great integrity and generosity. He was a man to emulate. His last few years were a struggle with Parkinson?s, but he dealt with it with grace and never complained. Bob was a member of John Knox Presbyterian Church. He is survived by his wife, Joann, and four daughters, Diane Lukken of Dallas, Claudia (Randy) Imel of Jenks, Lucia (Pat) Hrncir of Dallas, and Adele (Paul) Peterson of Eden Prairie, MN, brother Albert (Donna) Lukken of Edmond, sister Romayne Warren of Plano, Texas,10 grandchildren, a niece and 5 nephews.
