Obituary

Robert W. Sorrels was fully restored and able to walk again after 43 long years in a wheelchair this Wednesday night, August 23, 2023, at 9:22 p.m. when he went home to be with Jesus. He was able to be at home with loved ones when he passed. Robert (Bob) was the son of Robert Gilbert Sorrels and Ruby Maxine Caywood Sorrels. Bob is survived by his loving wife of over 39 years, Barbara Sorrels, as well as by their two daughters, Krista Macias, Ashley soon to be Henry, bonus daughter, April Kirby, two sons-in-law Raul Macias and Michael Henry, two grandchildren Eleanor and Jojo (who referred to him as Yoyo), and long-time caregiver and family friend, Patti Jones. Bob was an amazing brother and is survived by his sister, Elaine Goolsby and joined his other sister Carolyn Sorrels in Heaven. Bob was born in Henryetta, Oklahoma and was raised in Norman. He attended the University of Oklahoma for his undergrad, Southwestern Seminary for his Master of Divinity, and Oklahoma State University for his MBA. For most of his career life he was a computer analyst for American Electric Power.

Bob's life was anything but easy, but he lived it in an extraordinary way. After a car accident on the mission field that left him a quadriplegic at the age of 28, Bob never let his disability keep him from living life fully. Though he faced many heartbreaking disappointments, he continued to love and follow God to his last dying breath. Bob spent his life loving his family well, loving God unwaveringly, and shining a bright light of Christ to those around him. His legacy of suffering well and loving God even when it costs you everything will live on. A celebration of Bob's life will take place on Sunday, August 27, 2023 at Anthem Church, 7779 South Garnett Road, Tulsa, Oklahoma from 2-4 p.m.
